JAY-Z is making it official: he’s taking home the master recordings of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, in 2031.

According to TMZ Hip Hop, JAY-Z’s legal team filed a notice stating that the rights of 1996 record will be given back to the artist in 2031. The notice serves as official paperwork that follows a stipulation confirming that the master recordings of Reasonable Doubt will be returned to JAY-Z 35 years after the album’s release.

While this is good news for the artist himself, this becomes a problem for the soon-to-be buyer of Dame Dash‘s $1.2 million USD Roc-A-Fella shares. The auction is set to take place on August 29, and with Reasonable Doubt serving as the record label’s only substantial asset, the new owner of the shares will get to enjoy a third of the album’s revenue for only about seven years before they’re returned to JAY-Z.
