“When I was in my Mother’s womb, my Dad would tell me this story all the time of how I would move around & kick so much that in order for me to stop, he would put headphones over her belly. He said “It actually worked”!”

Once I entered this world, February 17, 1984, that was their go to, to keep me quiet lol. All I needed was some good music and headphones. As I got older, you can always find me with my walkman, Cd-Walkman, near a radio or boom box. I loved being in my own world, recording my voice on cassette or when my dad asked me to make him a mixtape of songs, that would be the highlight of my day. I’m so glad he allowed me to explore that side.

Music is literally in my blood and this turned into writing poetry by 9 years old which turned into song lyrics and 16 bar verses. My first outlet to DJing was at the age of 10. A good friend of the family had a son who was into it. He was 16 at the time and whenever we would visit of course I didn’t want to just sit in the living room while hearing all this good music/scratching being played from his bedroom. One day he invited me up and I was a kid in a candy store lol. He taught me a few things and would just let me go! My first choice of record was Craig Mack “Flavor In Your Ear” bringing the beat back to the top was so fascinating! Unfortunately, they were victim to a robbery where items were stolen as well as his equipment. They eventually moved, and that outlet was no longer there.

So, I continued to create cassette mixtapes, then cd mixes. I always had a thing for choosing the right songs down to how they were listed on the cd to create the right flow. You can’t just follow the next song with anything, it has to blend! Whenever there were gatherings, I would bring my mixes for the party or laptop and a small speaker. Never thinking DJ… just wasn’t on my mind. My writing/recording continued as well doing features, my own Mixtape titled “Dat Ol Thang Back”, several music videos and single releases.

I was re-introduced to DJing once again, through a friend who had equipment. He had his setup on and said “Kay, come over here, you can do this!” What made him say that? Who knows but as stated, never in a million years did I think DJing would become apart of my life but in 2014 after leaving his house, it stayed on my mind and I decided to take a chance. It came so naturally! I’ve now gained a clientele by word of mouth that I never could imagine. DJing has opened so many doors and opportunities. I love creating moments and it’s actually therapeutic for me as well, losing my Mother at 8 and my father recently in 2018. We were a music playing household and I literally got it honest! Who knows where this music journey will take me but I’m so blessed to be able to live out my dreams.

Thank you for visiting and thank you for allowing me to create moments for you. Whether it be through my lyricism or my DJing.”
